An introduction to BJJ (Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu)

Made famous by the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is one of the fastest-growing and most effective forms of martial arts in the world today. The basic premise of BJJ is that 90% of actual fights end up on the ground. As such, BJJ focuses primarily on grappling and submission techniques in ground fighting.

At Extreme, a typical BJJ class will start with warm-up exercises, then grappling techniques and drills, followed by light sparring. You will learn self-defence skills on the ground as well as develop fitness, flexibility and agility. Be warned – it’s addictive!

Our classes are suited to all levels of skill and experience.

For the beginner or novice

If you have little or no experience in BJJ, our Beginner Classes are perfect for you. They focus on the fundamentals, including basic techniques, body movement drills, balance drills, and body position.

For the more advanced student

If you have a background or considerable experience in BJJ, the Advanced Classes are designed for you. These involve more advanced techniques, competition-specific training, and longer, more intense sparring sessions (free rolling).
