Gi vs No-Gi Jiu Jitsu is the ultimate debate in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Essentially, it comes down to comparing two different grappling options in this martial art. There are pros and cons to each. Gi vs No-Gi Jiu Jitsu: the basics

In Gi Jiu Jitsu, opponents wear a traditional Gi. This is useful for certain grappling techniques. Wearing a traditional Gi can be advantageous while rolling. Proponents of Gi argue that what you learn in Gi can be applied to No-Gi as well.

In No-Gi, fighters typically wear shorts and a rash guard. People in favour of No-Gi point out that it’s more realistic to real-life situations. Additionally, No-Gi is an easier transition into MMA.

The differences in training sessions

Gi Jiu Jitsu incorporates the technical use of your opponent’s gi when grappling. By contrast, No-Gi fighters have fewer options when it comes to stalling or holding their opponent while rolling. Therefore, breaking grips is much easier in No-Gi. The result is that No-Gi training is much more of a fast-pace style than Gi Jiu Jitsu.

There are important technical distinctions between the two.

Both use technique, leverage, and force. However, Gi has more complicated and advanced techniques. No-Gi, by contrast, relies more on strength and speed. This might allow you to move to a dominate position more easily, but it’s more difficult to secure a submission from full mount compared to Gi.
