Muay Thai
Thai Boxing, also known as Muay Thai, is a martial art that has been developed in Thailand many years ago as a method of full-body combat. Muay Thai is referred to as ‘the art of eight limbs’, encouraging the use of eight points of body combat as a weapon, including the fists, elbows, knees and shins. This method of combat is now used in MMA for kids.
Building Character
While the sport sounds intense, this form of MMA for kids has so many benefits when taught in a controlled environment. It teaches kids:
- To be disciplined
- To work hard towards their goals
- Respect for their body
- Strength and resilience
- Courage and confidence
For generations this form of MMA has been adopted by people for the physical and mental benefits that come through in training. It has many virtues to pass on to kids in the process, including patience and endurance.
An Ancient Art
Muay Thai dates back thousands of years as the younger generation were taught to defend themselves, and their nation, against foreign invaders. In a time when kings reigned and there was a need to protect the throne this art was employed due to the need for no weapons. It became a sport amongst the men returning from their military duties, as they wrapped their arms in cotton before taking on their opponent. A love of the sport and its necessity to protect their borders, meant Muay Thai became a large part of Thai culture.
